Tonight we are talking about PRIDE, something I know just a little about...HA! Make sure you are there to hear the dangers of pride and how pride can destroy lives!
v.3 "The man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but if he hangs around with prostitutes, his wealth is wasted."
Replace "man" with your name.
Replace "prostitutes" with whatever sin trips you up the most.
Replace "wealth" with whatever is precious to you personally.
We have been learning on Sunday nights to make verses personal. To read them and ask how they can apply to our life today? My prayer is that students and adults, children and parents have taken this month to make scripture personal. We have today and then two more days left in this journey through Proverbs. How well have you done? Are you finishing strong or just barely finishing? Regardless of how you have done this past month, take today and the next couple of days to read the verses and make them personal to you.
When you make it personal:
You will understand the verse better.
You will remember it more clearly.
You will apply the verse daily.

If you do not accept criticism, you will destroy your life. This applies to both the young and the old. You are never too old to listen to the advise of the wise and take it to heart. I tend to get defensive when I am criticized, but when I actually *listen* instead of thinking of reasons this person is wrong, I usually learn a valuable lesson. I pray that God will continue to help me be open to wisdom, no matter what the channel.
Pride ends in humiliation. When I was real young, my dad once let me switch gears from the passenger seat while he pushed in the clutch. I thought that was the coolest thing. I was driving! If I had tried to drive by myself, however, I would have been frustrated that my feet didn't reach the pedals (let alone put myself in a dangerous position). Always depend on God for everything. He provides everything from the smallest blessing to the greatest riches. Everything I do, I do by the grace of God.
Throughout Proverbs, I have seen many verses that have said "take advice." GOD is really trying to get through to us that we need to take advice! Consider school. Let's say you had to figure out what (x+6)(x-6). You knew that you had to FOIL (First, Outside, Inside, Last.) So you did (x)(x)-6x+6x-36 which simplified equals x^2-36 (x sqaured minus 36.) You realize that you have to do 55 more problems like this one, but then your teacher says if you do the F and the L in the FOIL method it will equal the same thing. If you are stubborn, you will take forever in your math work, but if you take your teacher's advice, your homework will take 2 seconds! GOD wants us to take advice from the older, respected people, and from Him!
Pride brings destruction! Do you want destruction? No! So don't be prideful! Instead, swap that pride out for GOD's wisdom! GOD's honor! Just say, "GOD, I'd like a trade. Please take my sinful pride, and give me Your wisdom. Amen"

"Me" who loves wisdom brings joy to my father, but if "me" hangs out with yelling and frustration, my family is wasted.
