As I read, I really was turned toward the thoughts about our Mom and Dad. Many of you know my Dad died this summer at a young age and as the saying goes, you really don't know what you have missed until it is gone. My point to you this morning...spend time and start a conversation with your parents! A conversation is so much better than anything on TV.
v.22 "Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don't despise your mother when she is old."
v.25 "So give your father and mother joy! May she who gave you birth be happy."
What great reminders that we should be joys to our parents and not pains in the rear!
Everything you read in Proverbs is from a Dad instructing his child. The Dad wants the child to be wise, to succeed and to stay focused on God. I too want that for my own children. I will instruct them, discipline them, encourage them, be an example for them and pray for them constantly!
v. 26 "O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways."

Principles 6 through 18 are found in today's chapter. The one that stood out most for me was #7: Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.
There are so many ways the world can try to pull you into this line of thinking. Get-rich-quick schemes are everywhere you look. They can make you think that it is so easy and that you can't give up because you are so close to making it work. Seek after God's wisdom which is greater than all the riches in the world.
I got a lot of things out of this chapter! v.12 says, "Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge." Get your HEART to hear instruction! Your ears should HEAR words of knowledge! Listen to GOD!
V.13 made me laugh! Yes, discipline your children. This v. says, "Do not withhold discipline from a child; if ou punish him with the rod, he will not die." I think GOD was talking to all of those people who say it is wrong to spank your child once or twice when they've done wrong. HE says, "They aren't gonna die!" So yes, discipline.
V.29-35 really stuck out to me. They are about drinking. NOTHING GOOD COMES FROM IT!!!!! So jsut don't do it. Who has sorrow? Who has complaints? Who has strife? It's the one who drinks!!!
