Proverbs 11

For me, Proverbs 11 is all about PRIDE.  Throughout Proverbs 11, the Word deals with the things that can make us proud;

Riches v4, v16, v18, v28

Ambition v6

Strength v7

Friends v9

Beauty v22

Proverbs 11:2 is a verse I know all too well.  My wife says it to me quite often to keep me in check.

NLT says "Pride leads to disgrace"

Other translations say shame, dishonor.

The Message translations says "The stuck up fall flat on their faces"

My version is "Pride comes before the fall" which is also in line with Proverbs 16:18 and Proverbs 29:23.

Relient K's (another great Christian artist) song "Benediction" has the following lyrics:

I know that pride and summertime come before fall. Almost missed the bus, but Jesus gave me a wake up call.

Benediction - Relient K
Finally, for all the Ladies out there, take a good read of Proverbs 11:22.  I had a student several years ago on a mission trip that was more focused on the ladies than what God wanted us to do that week.  He found a "girlfriend" and wanted to write her a love letter and end it with a verse to show her what a great Christian he was.  He did not have one himself so I told him to end the letter with Proverbs 11:22!  I thought that the verse would end the relationship and the student could get focused again on God's work for us.  Instead, the girl thought it was sweet!  I am not sure if she understood the verse or even if she read it!  It backfired on me, but it was still funny!

I liked your Proverbs 11:22 story Nik!

Honesty is what really stood out for me today. When dealing with people in social and professional situations it is so important to be honest. God hates those that try to cheat others. Trying to get ahead by taking advantage of others is pointless. Live a life of integrity and you will gain the respect of others.

When your life feels like it is coming crashing down around you, money means nothing. God's wisdom and principles can help you make through those tough times. The reward for godly living will last while money and other worldly possessions can disappear as fast as they were obtained.
